This year, as part of the LIFE project "Diversification and development of the European bison population in north-western Poland", we have completed the immobilisation season during which telemetry collars were put on bison. During the project 50 collars were set up, which means that 23% of individuals from the West Pomeranian bison population carry these devices. Collars were put on an adult females and are used to monitor the location of bison. Thanks to the collars we can keep track of wandering bison and diversification of herds. Monitoring also helps us in the functioning of the Bison Emergency Unit. Thanks to data from telemetry collars we can very precisely determine the place where conflict situations occur, such as: the presence of animals on crops or near large communication routes.
